About Horaiken

If you’re looking for a spot that feels both comforting and exciting at the same time, Horaiken is one of those places I can’t help but talk about whenever food comes up, because it blends classic Chinese flavors with a relaxed, neighborhood-style atmosphere that instantly makes you feel welcome, and the moment you hear the name Horaiken, you can almost picture warm lighting, lively tables, and the soft clatter of plates coming from the kitchen; located at 5-23 Hiranomachi, Nagasaki, 852-8117, Japan, this restaurant sits in a convenient area that’s easy to reach whether you’re local or just passing through, and once you step inside, you’ll notice how the space balances casual comfort with a slightly upscale feel that works perfectly for quick meals or longer dinners with friends, family, or coworkers. The menu leans into bold, familiar Chinese dishes, yet there’s enough variety to keep things interesting, especially if you enjoy sharing small plates and trying a bit of everything, and while the flavors stand out on their own, pairing them with a cold beer, a glass of wine, or another drink from their alcohol selection makes the experience even better. What really makes Horaiken shine is how flexible it is, because you can dine in and soak up the vibe, order takeaway when you’re in a rush, or choose delivery and no-contact delivery when you’d rather stay home, and even kerbside pickup is available for those days when convenience matters most. The private dining room adds another layer of appeal, making it easy to host small gatherings or celebrate special moments without feeling crowded, and at the same time, the friendly service keeps everything flowing smoothly so you never feel out of place or ignored. Every detail, from the welcoming atmosphere to the thoughtful service options, works together to create a space that feels approachable yet memorable, which is why introducing Horaiken feels less like recommending a restaurant and more like sharing a place that naturally becomes part of your regular dining routine.

For my fellow Gen Zers this was BUSSIN. I had to wait a bit to be seated as I came at a busy time but honestly it was so worth it. The braised pork buns were literally melt in your mouth delicious, the shrimp dumplings were heaven and the dessert was crispy, sweet and just overall goodness in a ball. I did ball out a bit so this meal (braised pork, shrimp dumplings, small rice, 2 x sesame balls and a beer) was 4200 yen, but honestly, as a treat it was so worth it. The staff were also amazing; I had two waiters serve me, both super friendly and both knowing English to guide me through the process. The interior decor is also super beautiful. Great spot for a special occasion or fine dining lunch/dinner. If I didn’t live in Australia I would definitely come back.

Quite delicious and interesting place to pay a visit. The architecture of the building is an amazing sight to behold and you can tell the owners have given it a lot of thought from the outside to inside dining experience. Ordered the seafood champon and it was loaded with a variety of seafood. Would love to come back next time to try the other items on the menu.

Perfect experience from start to finish. The food exceeded my expectations and the main hostess was explaining the dishes and drinks as I ordered to make me feel like a local. Also she wouldn't let me leave till I tried their jelly dessert! Best dining experience I've had in Japan thus far.

Great champon with close proximity to the peace museum. There was a line during peak hour but easily dwindled in 15 minutes max.

Great place to have lunch if you’re in the area. It seemed like a tourist trap initially, but then turned out to be a surprisingly legit Chinese restaurant. If you’re looking for something lighter than Champon and less oily than Sara Udon, try their stir-fried noodles. It’s like a stir-fried version of Champon minus the soup. Delicious!

Came in at around 1330 on a Friday in mid November. There is free parking available. You put your name down in the guest book at the entrance and they call your name when your table is ready. Ordered the Champon, Sara udon and the fried udon. Personally I like the Sara udon. With a dash of vinegar it hits the spot for me. The chili prawns are also nice. Enjoyable lunch in Nagasaki .

Portions are a bit small, but flavorful and tasty. I would highly recommend the fried rice and get an order of the chili shrimp. Together they taste amazing! Their hatoshi (shrimp toast) is great as well.
